Australia Scenery

In the poem Australian Scenery, Banjo mentioned that the most important part or icon of Australia geography is the mountain and the plain. It means that in Australia mostly the land consists of the mountains and the plains. The depiction of mountains in Australia described in the first, second and third stanza. The next, about the plains in Australia depicted in fourth, five, and sixth stanza. Now let us make possible interpretation towards Australian Scenery poem that discussed in the next paragraphs.

In the first stanza, clearly show that the mountain still pure, and dark. It shows from the words ‘sombre’ and ‘silent hills’. It seems that only animal could live there freely. At first, Australia is inhabited land, so that the land still natural. Mostly in the first stanza picture natural land in the mountain which not touched, we can see it from the words ‘twisted track‘, ‘sidelings steep’ and also wild because giant gum trees grow in the mountain.  It means that although Australia land is still pure but in the also so dry. It stated from the second stanza clearly shows the contradiction between scenery of Australia. Although Australia is beautiful but there were still danger in there. Banjo emphasize the word ‘dead’ in line one at the first stanza ‘sound itself is dead’, it seems give us understanding that no one could survive in the wild land of Australia.
The plains of Australia seems fertile from the words ‘as far as the eye can see, where the waving grasses grow’ however in the next stanza sow how pity the land of Australia. Banjo picture the plain was so blackened, burnt, and bare indicates that it is impossible to survive in barren land, However, there was still new hope in that land. And the people who live in Australia show that they have the power and also want to show a pride when the people could survive in there. The last stanza clearly shows the hope of new life in the land of Australia. At the end the people who survive will came to their victory, it proves from the world ‘catch a sound of fairy’s song’, ‘the wind goes whipping by’. And the line turns to show us that the victory and disaster always live side by side in the land of Australia, it stated in the words ‘the dust storms dance on their ballroom floor’. It gives us understanding that we cannot forget Australia consists of desert where the hurricane sometimes might come while we enjoy the victory. In conclusion, Australia lands have the beauty scenery with the dangers in there, but still Australia is the new land of hope. In other words, Australia is still a land that has own characteristics, with beauty and roughness, with the fertile land and barren land.
